What is fear? Why is it so scary?
It's funny how such a basic emotion can be so hard to describe, because everyone perceives it differently.
It can be irrational or rational, it comes in all shapes and forms. It can be caused by trauma or it can just be your unconscious playing up with you. I'm scared of bugs, like many people in the world. Specially scared of anything with many legs and spiders. Most people would say that's a silly fear. In fact, I've been mocked about it countless of times. And I get it.
Unlike other emotions, fear is the only one that we cannot explain why we feel it, we cannot give it a reason and we cannot, most times, find a reason or understand someone's fear. I mean, if someone has been shot in the past and is now scared of getting shot again, is that fear irrational or is it expected? And are these premises applied if we're talking about being afraid of dying before your time?
And though these fears are fairly common, we´re still judged for having them. Why? Why are we judged for our fears when they’re as normal as any other emotion?
It seems like every aspect of our nature is meant to be judged: too loud, too quiet, what you look like, what you do, what you’re into, what you’re not into, and even what you’re scared of. We are human beings, not sheep, and yet we follow each other rather than standing alone as individuals. But this .... this is a topic for another post ;)
